Montessori Materials

by Gayla McCord on June 20th, 2005

My daughter, Katelyn, just finished her first year at a Montessori preschool and I love everything about this teaching method. I purchased some Montessori materials, like these shapes and templates, to work with her during the summer:

Dr. Maria Montessori founded the educational program of Montessori in 1907. Montessori emphasizes learning through the five senses, not just bylistening, watching, or reading. The children learn at their own pace and choose from hundreds of activities available on a daily basis. You can even homeschool your child using the Montessori method!

I attended a Montessori school (for pre-school) and I think it helped in my development, as I have vivid memories of what I learned back then (I was only 5). But, it hasn’t really occurred to me that you can purchase Montessori materials to use at home. It’s definitely something to think about. Thanks!

I actually have purchased a ton of materials on eBay! They have a lot of great learning tools - sensorial objects, movable alphabet, tracing, etc.
