Collectible Space Toys
Last week, I mentioned all the Star Wars toys that have been loved and lost. Just as valuable are space toys from the ’60s. (The Arizona Republic, June 25, 2005)
Ralph and Terry Kovel write,
Toy rocket ships were popular in the late 1960s. One, a battery-operated toy marked “TM Modern Toys” (Masudaya Toy Co.), was made in Japan to be sold in the United States. A spaceman on a wire spun from the top. It beeped and flashed lights, but did not fly. All old space toys are collectible today.
My toddler is already convinced that he’s headed for space and that I will be going with him in the space shuttle. He knows the names of all the planets and what Armstrong said when he landed on the moon - “That’s one small step for man; one giant leap for mankind.”
Just in case any of the space toys we’ve gotten for our son breaks, we’ve begun buying two sets at a time. Maybe we’ll save one as a collectible instead.

It’s entirely possible that in 20 years when our small ones are leaving college, that space colonization and travel will be routine. How probable it is, I don’t know, but the sci-fi dreamer in me hopes it happens sooner rather than later. hehehe

Qadira - I’m not as optimistic as you about the space industry because you know I think the genomic revolution will probably be the dominating force in the 21st century. :P

I’m a hopeless romantic about things like space travel ;)

We DID buy duplicates of the original Star Wars figures in the 70’s. Had them all graded last year, and sold every one of them at a very high premium. They tell you to invest in stocks you understand. We do better with collectibles we understand LOL!
