Star Wars Toys Profitable For Hasbro

by Hsien-Hsien Lei on July 21st, 2005

My son’s Lego Obi-Wan “skating”.

My three-year-old toddler is well on his way to becoming a crazed Star Wars fan like his father. He’s already amassed several of the character figures, including C-3PO, Astromech Droid, R2-D2, Obi-Wan, and Anakin, plus some of the spacecrafts, including the X-Wing, Land Speeder, and TIE Fighter. Then, of course, he’s got the requisite Star Wars sticker books and other DK readers. This doesn’t include all the Star Wars paraphernalia his father has already collected.

According to Motley Fool, Hasbro’s 25% increase in U.S. toy sales and 17.3% increase in international sales is largely attributed to sales of Star Wars toys. If Star Wars toys prove to be as popular with my son’s children, Hasbro should try to extend their deal with George Lucas which currently lasts through 2018. After the Star Wars hooplah starts to die down, Hasbro will undoubtedly make more Transformers toys when Paramount pictures releases the live-action motion picture of Transformers in 2007.

Looks like some Hasbro stock would be a wise investment for parents and other adults involved with children under the Hasbro spell.
