Remote-Control Robots
C3PO and R2-D2 from Star Wars have whetted my son’s appetite for robots. He walks like a robot, dances like a robot, and sings about robots. Here are a couple of the robots the Dayton Daily News reviewed recently.
- Roboraptor
It can walk, trot and run forward or walk backwards, and it turns left or right on command. It follows commands to swivel its head, swish its tail or snap at objects.
The Roboraptor can be set to operate independently in one of three “moods,” hunting, cautious and playful. When set in a mood, the raptor uses infrared vision sensors, sound sensors and touch sensors to control his actions.
- Robosapien
Some smaller children found Robosapien frightening, particularly when it walked or danced toward them. Roboraptor is likely to be even more intimidating and is recommended for children 8 and older.
