Safety While Shopping For Children’s Things

by Hsien-Hsien Lei on October 27th, 2005

My family and I are about to move to London for a few years. Upon hearing this, a friend warned me about pickpockets. She’d had her purse stolen at Harrod’s.

Other thefts have happened when bags are left in pushchairs, mostly while owners are in shops such as children’s clothes shops and toy stores but also while owners are unloading shopping, putting children in cars or when the buggy is left unattended in a park.

Here are some safety tips while shopping for children’s books, toys and things:

  • Keep your handbag on your shoulder and not in a buggy or shopping trolley.
  • Keep your eye on your handbag at all times especially when shopping as it is easy to get distracted.
  • Wrap the strap around handles so it is harder to remove.
  • When loading your car, put your handbag in first so it is not on display.
  • Do not leave your purse unattended at the checkout and keep hold of it until you get your change and then put it back in your handbag even if this does mean it takes longer to pack.

Have fun and be safe on your next shopping trip!
