Children’s Toy Safety
Before you rush out to buy all the toys the greedy little children in your life demand this holiday season, you might want to check ToySafety.Net first. Sponsored by the National Association of State Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), they list these toy safety tips (as impractical as they may seem):
- Don’t buy small toys or toys with small parts.
- Read and heed warning labels.
- Never give young children small balls or balloons (esp. pieces of broken balloons).
- Keep mobiles out of the reach of children in cribs.
- Keep cords short.
- Take batteries out of loud toys or cover speakers with tape.
- Avoid toys made of PVC plastic; choose wooden or cloth toys instead.
- Buy protective gear, such as helmets, knee pads, elbow pads, and wrist guards.
- Report dangerous toys to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
How many of these safety tips have you flouted?
