Nicotine Patches for Kids
Schools in Derwentside district in County Durham, UK are planning to distribute nicotine patches to children as young as 12 who show signs of being addicted to smoking. A pilot program found that nicotine patches helped reduce the number of young smokers by half. In Britain, 9 percent of kids aged 11 to 15 are smokers.
“Each young person is assessed individually,” the spokesman said. “We don’t just go out and give patches to anyone that steps through our door.”
Well, why not? Nicotine patches are available over-the-counter. I imagine that some parents might be tempted to stick a patch on their kids if they think the school sanctions it. Somehow, I think that intervention should have begun BEFORE the kids ever picked up a cigarette.

I am in a Public Speaking class in college and I have to do a persuasive speech. I have chosen to do it on this very thing. They have handed out condoms in some high schools to try and stop teen pregnancy’s, why not hand out nicotine patches to try and help them stop smoking. I’m all for it!!!!!!!
