No Safety Advantage for SUV’s
Sport utility vehicles (SUV’s) are not much safer than passenger cars. SUV’s have double the risk of rollovers which cancels out the safety conferred by their greater size and weight. So if you’re considering getting an SUV to keep your kids safe, you might want to reconsider acquiring such a gas guzzler.
A different kind of safety concern exists in Vietnam. The average person can’t afford a car and most own scooters/motorbikes. A family of two adults and two small children often ride one scooter sans helmets. Everything is relative including “basic safety.”

yeah, i feel much safer in a car…except when a bigger car is coming right at me. everything would be safer if you got rid of bad drivers and the big cars driven by bad drivers.

kschaub: If I think about it too much, I’m afraid to get on the road! Many expats in Vietnam are afraid to cross the streets because there’s a lot of traffic but no traffic lights. :(
