Back Away From the TV!
Young children especially like getting right up to the TV. It’s as if they think they can jump right in and get in on the action.
A Taiwanese company has developed a $450 gadget to help monitor the distance between children and their TV’s. The TV Magic Tool by Can-New Co. Ltd. uses a passive infrared (PIR) sensor to judge the distance between the TV set and the TV viewer.
Can-New Manager Ouyang Ho said:
Parents can pre-set the allowed distance between the TV and the TV viewer. When the child sits too close, the TV Magic Tool shouts ‘My friend, you are sitting too close!’ If the child does not move back, it will give the warning two more times before shutting off the TV.
I don’t think kids will consider this gadget their “friend.”

450 American dollars? I pity the sucker who actually buys one of those, completely not worth it.

Hm, I like the sound of that gadget. Alas, I think my kids are all old enough to know how to turn the tv back on …

The children need education, not TV.

But, I wonder, is there hard scientific proof that sitting too close to the TV is dangerous? I do not know.

What a great idea! Although I can imagine the hysterical sobbing that would occur before the kids learned to listen. I’m constantly having to peel my two off the TV screen. :)
