Children’s Books for Every Occasion: Sharing

by Hsien-Hsien Lei on April 15th, 2006

Sharing a ShellMy son has been in nursery school for about six months now and should be used to sharing. I think he does ok at school but at home, it’s a totally different story.

When we have guests come over, he has some trouble sharing certain toys. I do some pre-emptive putting away of toys but it’s impossible to predict which he will have trouble sharing. Wonder if a book like Sharing a Shell by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks would help.

Synopsis

With glitter on every page, this book has real sparkle! The tiny hermit crab loves his new shell. He doesn’t want to share it - not with a blobby purple anemone and a tickly bristleworm. But life in the rockpool proves tougher than Crab thinks, and soon he finds he needs his new housemates in this rollicking story of sea, shells and friendship.

I’ll have to get this book just for the glitter alone. Who doesn’t love sparkle?!

There was one for whining: Whining, Kicking and Crying to Get Your Way and some others that I thought were funny. There are more that were funny, but borderline mean. [...]
