Strawberry Shortcake Creator Bernard Loomis Dies
I read this obituary for Bernard Loomis who died last Friday at age 82 and marveled at how much toys and the way in which we come across them has changed. He had no toys as a child but later came up with the idea that toys should a significant part of children’s media entertainment and not just an adjunct.
“Manufacturers create a fantasy world, and this has led to a very sophisticated relationship between them and the child,” Loomis said in an interview with Time in 1985. “We are now in the business of multiple sales to the same children in the same fantasy.”
He was also the creator of Strawberry Shortcake and for that I thank him.

Oh!
I love the older version of Strawberry Short Cake. We did a SSC party for a friend’s daughter two years back.

Christine: Strawberry Shortcake and her friends are adorable both the older version and the newer. :) It’s nice you have a daughter to share her with! Even my friends all have boys. Darn!!
jan: Thank you so much! I hope you’ll stop by again and share your memories.
