Children’s Books for Every Occasion: Usborne Publishing
A while ago, I raved about books published by Dorling Kindersley (DK). After moving to London in January, I’ve discovered another children’s book publisher that impresses me - Usborne. At the library and bookstore, their That’s Not My… series of books always catches my son’s attention even though they’re a little too young for him at almost four-years-old (these books are probably most suitable for infants to toddlers). Despite that, he still can’t resist running his hands over the different textures and delighting in the eye candy on every page.
Their selection of books ranges from science to art. All are well-written with explanatory pictures. Some are even linked to the Internet.
Each Usborne Internet-linked book contains short descriptions of recommended Web sites specially chosen by Usborne editors. Readers can go straight to the sites by clicking on links at the Usborne Quicklinks Web site.
The links at Usborne Quicklinks are regularly reviewed and updated, and there are other resources too, including downloadable pictures, puzzles and quizzes, and music and sound files to listen to the words in language books.
I highly recommend Usborne books!

I am so glad you posted this. A friend of mine is an Usbourne rep and I am hosting a Tupperware-style party in October for some of the other English-speaking mothers to come and do some Christmas shopping. Now that I have heard your response, I think it will be a great time.

Christine: I take it you can find them in Singapore?
Kate: I’m soooo jealous!!! One more reason why I must be your office buddy.

I will be looking for recommendations of books (and games)for my six year old grandson. He’s into all of the gross action figures and video games, but so far I have found books that interest him and we have quiet times under the shade tree with a pitcher of lemonade and cookies.

jan: Good question! Let me ask Play Library readers if they have any suggestions. :)

[…] I’ve discovered a new publisher to love in addition to Dorling Kindersley (DK) and Usborne - Egmont Books. Today, we picked up several of these Thomas Learning books, which have wonderful stories and colorful illustrations together with some key graphics to help children learn how to improve their math and reading skills. I’m late to the party here, having just found you through emoms Blogjolt - but have you come across Barefoot Books yet? Beautiful books for a wide range of ages …
