Waterslide Fun and Safety
Last summer, the kids and I attended an aquatic afternoon event that included playing on an inflatable water slide similar to the Six Flags® Banzai Blast Water Slide pictured here. The difference was that the slide our kids were playing on ended at the ground and deposited the kids onto a Slip’n Slide.
After watching a friend’s daughter, as well as a few other children, go down head first and get a good jolt on their necks, I mentioned that the kids should probably stick to going down feet first, just to be safe.
As soon as I said this, one of the people who helped put the slide together said, “Oh yeah. It says they’re never supposed to go down headfirst.” And something to the effect of it being a safety hazard. Hmmmm….that would have been helpful information, I think.
So, even if you’ve read a warning that you think might just be common sense information, please share it with the parents of those children who will be using the toys. Don’t forget, some people don’t have common sense. And some people (myself and my friend included) just get distracted when the kids are playing. And, if you’ve at least told them the rules when they arrived, they can’t be too upset when you yell at their kids for breaking them!
Hope your summer days are fun and safe!
