Hula Hoop Tag

by Kerri Aldrich on July 10th, 2006

184704366_051c1f462b_m.jpgYou already know that I love the dollar stores, and one of the reasons is that they carry hula hoops. Yes, for a dollar! And the great thing about hula hoops for a dollar is that you can have a bunch of friends over, with a bunch of cheap hula hoops, and play a game that we invented called Hula Hoop Tag.

What, exactly, is Hula Hoop Tag? Well, I’m glad that you asked.

Hula Hoop tag is a game the kids and I invented after watching Pooh’s Heffalump Movie. In the movie, Pooh and friends decide to go capture the elusive Heffalump on what Roo refers to as an “expotition.” When they find the Heffalump, they are to throw their lassos around the poor animal and proclaim, “In the name of the Hundred Acre Wood, I capture you!”

Now, I didn’t think it was all that smart to hand out lassos to the kids and tell them to go capture each other (we’ve already had a few jump rope and tying to the tree incidents attempted), but the hula hoops are pretty harmless. And so, we chase each other around the back yard, attempting to throw the hula hoops over each others’ heads and we yell out, “In the name of the Hundred Acre Wood, I capture you!”

The best part is that the kids haven’t yet figured out that it’s much easier for me to capture them from 2-3 feet above them than it is for them to capture me from 2-3 feet below. I’m not cheating, am I? :)

By the way, have you voted in our poll in the sidebar on the right? We’re curious to know how much we each spend on toys per month. And don’t forget to count those kids’ meals if you’re buying them specifically for the toys and not the nutritional content. :)
