Frogz Singing Offensive Lyrics
Gemmy Frogz are under attack in Memphis, Tennessee. Parents claim the toy frogs sing lyrics that are unsuitable for kids.
Song lyrics, sung by one model of the singing frog, read, “Save a horse. Ride a cowboy. Another frog sings, “I’ll take you to the candy shop. I’ll let you lick the lollypop.”
I must admit to having a giggle when I read this. Bad mommy. Bad!! In any case, from the company page, Frogz sing popular pop songs like Whip It, My Sharona, and Celebration. These songs aren’t really for children to hear and understand so I’m not surprised the lyrics aren’t exactly suitable.
On the other hand, how many preschoolers do you think would understand the double meaning? Grade schoolers maybe but as Kerri mentioned, most children’s movies are replete with innuendo.
Have you heard Frogz sing?

Kevin Spacey was on Charlie Rose one night talking about the Old Vic (http://www.oldvictheatre.com/live/index2.htm), and said they have a tradition of doing a production around the holidays that is a “children’s” production, but is full of double-entendre for the adults. Can’t remember what the production is called, but I think he said they’re bringing it back soon! That would be fun to see, I think. :)

I think unless it is so explicit that you can’t ignore the double meaning, there’s no point to getting in a dither about it. I remember one of my bestest friends and I, at the age of 14 or so, seeing just how “dirty” we could make regular ordinary conversation sound. It’s not hard. oops, would you look at that last sentence? ROFL.
