Crocs for Kids: Name Brand or Knock-Offs?

by Hsien-Hsien Lei on August 16th, 2006

Four out six kids at a get-together we went to yesterday were wearing Crocs. Two were wearing authentic Crocs that are worth about $25, one (my son) was wearing knock-offs from Walmart that cost $9, and I’m not sure about the last little guy.

I’ve got a pair of real Crocs myself and while they’re sorta kinda comfortable, I still prefer to wear proper shoes. They’re definitely a convenient pair of slip-ons for kids to run around in the backyard, though. So I’m off to Walmart again soon to pick up an extra pair.

Besides the huge price difference, does anybody know how the Walmart knock-offs differ from the real thing?

20 opinions for Crocs for Kids: Name Brand or Knock-Offs?

Crocs are the ugliest shoes I think I’ve ever seen.

I keep hearing people rave about how comfy-wonderful they are, but frankly I’m doubtful. Remember the wooden Dr. Scholl’s with the leather strap/metal buckle? Everyone raved about those too.

I’ll stick with my Birks and Chacos. ;)

Deb: Awww. C’mon. They’re so colorful and unique!! Well, maybe not so unique anymore.

I was never into Birkenstocks or Dr. Scholl’s but you know both brands and the styles are making a comeback too!!

Colorful yes. If one’s purpose is to have something on the feet that is guaranteed to clash with everything except gardening clothes, they’re perfect! hehehe.

The only thing that makes me happy about Birks coming back into style, is that it will be more likely I can buy a nice pair of Birks on sale. They’ve been a high-end niche market item for a long time, and discounts on the price are hard to find.

My kids love their nile crocs and I love my crocs flip flop. I do think that they should be cheaper. They’re very comfortable. But they’re just sandals - especially when it’s $45 for kids crocs shoes

I checked out the knock offs at Wal-Mart, but the ones at our Wal-Mart were so hard. I didn’t think those could be comfortable at all. Are your Wal-Mart croc soft? My daughter’s knock off came from Hamricks.

Karen: The ones I got from Walmart didn’t seem appreciably different than my authentic Crocs. That said, I don’t think either are very comfortable. :p

[…] Kerri and I have written before about the rubber Crocs clogs and their imitators before (she likes them, I’m not completely sold). Today, I found out that the daughter of one of my blog friends, Jo, was wearing imitation Crocs when they got stuck in an escalator in Singapore earlier this month. On Saturday, two-year-old Chong Shiyr’s right big toe was ripped off in a Singapore mall after her rubber clog — an imitation of a Croc shoe — got stuck between the escalator gap and the side wall. My kids love the crocks - we have the knock offs from dollar general ($4 a pair). I think they are great becasue the kids can take them on and off by themselves and who really cares if they clash. They are just kids. (I wouldn’t wear them)

Our Wal-Mart has gotten some different ones in lately. I got my son a pair a few months ago and we don’t like them. If he wears them too long, the metal piece that holds the strap on wears on the side of his foot. He’s had a sore there a few times, but he insists on wearing them some days. My daughter just got a pair from Wal-Mart last week. They’re the No Boundaries brand. So far, so good.

The knock offs are great for college kids living in dorms. Very good shower shoes, then add socks and off to class.

There’s a big difference between the real Crocs and the knockoffs. The real Crocs are made from a material that softens and warms with your body heat, allowing the shoes to mold to your feet. They’re also resistant to the fungus and bacteria that causes foot and shoe odor. Not only that when I bought my daughter the knockoffs and it ate the back of her heels raw. I went and kicked out the extra money for the real ones and she’s totally happy with them. So take care of your feet people…I mean, you only need them to walk right?

I find that the CROC knockoffs are just as comfortable as the regular CROCS. I also found something really cool to accessorize them. NOT JIBBITZ. Jibbitz to me were a little childish. The company is called charmfusion and they do charms in silver tone and what I would like to call kind of a charm bracelet for your crocs. CUTE CUTE CUTE. You have to check these out. http://WWW.chramfusion.com.

I just bought some knock-offs this week. I said the next time I bought a pair I would buy the real ones, but I tried these on and really like them. Plus, they were only $12. They’re called Crocos.

I only wear the real Crocs. My kids wear imitations thought. Here in South Africa we pay R400 per pair and R550 for Disney limited edition Crocs. The children’s Cros cost the same! Real Crocs are much softer after wearing it for a week or two. They really become softer and you can walk for hours on end with no sore feet at the end of the day. I like the Mary Janes - they are a lot more feminine (spelling?). So, if you going overseas where you will be walking constantly of maybe have a job where you stand up all the time e.g. a teacher, you’ve gotta have them!!!!

I have always thought crocs were stupid and ugly. Then I bought some knock offs for $6 to wear in the shower at the YMCA. I haven’t taken them off since. I am sold - they are incredibly comfortable. I am wearing socks with them to get me through the early winter.

i recently bought some croc knockoffs that are softer than the real thing and have bigger holes. they have no identifying marks or brand names or logos. i would like to buy some more but can’t seem to find them. i bought these at the goodwill so don’t know where to get more. these have smoother insole area. the crocs and most knock offs have sharp pointy little spikes all over and that hurts my feet. these have smoother raised bumps about the size of the holes. any help?

Crocs actually makes at least two of the knock off brands as I have a friend that works at the factory. I am not allowed to say which brands those are as it is suppose to be a well kept secret. That allows crocs to hold the price on the name brand while scooping up the bargain hunters.

The Crocos did not work for me. Both pairs of knock offs that I’ve had have made a calous on my left foot around my toe. I wish I knew which knock offs to buy. ;) Oh well, I should have just bought the real deal for my feet. The knock offs do ok for my kids. No complaints yet.
