Road Trip Travel Toy #4: Favorite Teddy Bear/Pacifier/Blankie
How I could have almost forgotten to mention this, I’m not quite sure. Thanks to Weary Parent for reminding me!
Each of my kids has specific things they like to sleep with. For my oldest, it’s her bunny blanket and her “first baby doll” that she’s had forever. Being a five year old, she can survive without these things, but they’re nice to have around. For my middle child, it’s his “Pooh pillow and car blankie.” Two things he rarely does without. For my baby, his fuzzy duckie blanket and his pacifier (only one specific Gerber type will do, so you better have one clean!) are absolute necesseties when sleeping.
So, whether your child has a favorite teddy bear, or some other beloved toy, don’t forget it on your next road trip. Maybe it’ll help them rest and sleep a little in the car. It didn’t work for mine, but I can hope it will for you!

Luckily Little Bear doesn’t take aything to bed with her yet. She does have a few animals she likes to cart around with her all day. Miss Turtle likes to sleep with the quilt I made for her.

My oldest son (almost 3) goes to bed with his Pooh pillow, and three blankets. His car blanket, his Pooh blanket, and the quilt I made him which, up until a few weeks ago, he always referred to as “my heart.” I’m gonna miss that!

My 5 1/2 yr old daughter has slept with a Classic Pooh Bear since toddlerhood. The last time we went on a trip by plane in April, we lost poor “Pooh Bear Massajah” (his name given by Anna) somewhere in the airport. Of course we didn’t realize he was missing until we were almost home an hour later. When we were about home, we stopped at Target so I could find her another one. They didn’t have same one, but I bought one that was close so that she wouldn’t have to be completely Pooh-less that night. She dissolved completely when we told her, and I weakly thrust the new on at her. My heart burned for her, and I knew that what I was feeling was nothing compared to what she felt at that moment.
I called the airport the next day and left my number but they never found Pooh Bear Massajah. We would like to believe that he has been adopted by a loving family, perhaps by someone who couldn’t afford a Pooh Bear. We are hoping that even though he is a little worn and scruffy, that he is happy with his new family.
A week later, after shedding many tears, Anna named her new Pooh Bear “Clea”. Two months ago, she decided to rename him Pooh Bear Massajah.
The moral of the story, bring the stuff they can’t live with out… but you better have a back up plan, LOL!

Baby Bug never goes anywhere without “Meow” her kitty lovey. I’m having nightmares about her losing it!

Mary: Amazing the bond our kids can create to some fabric and few tufts of stuffing! And how undone WE can become when we realize they’ve lost that stuffing. :D

We got lucky. Neither of our kids has anything they can’t sleep without. But, they definitely have things that they would prefer to be around.
Our daughter has a 2 inch Little Clifford stuffed animal that likes to go everywhere she does. Taking him in the winter is the easiest because he likes to sleep in her hat while she wears it.
Our son is addicted to Judy Blume’s Superfudge. Yeah, he’s 3 1/2. I read it when I was in first grade but I’m half expecting him to complete it for real before kindergarten.

Mike: A 2″ Clifford is at least easy to tote, but easy to misplace as well? Too cute that she keeps him in her hat! And I loved Judy Blume! Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing, Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great, Freckle Juice….hmmmmm, I’m gonna have to hit the library again soon. And all of the Beverly Cleary’s, too! One of the best parts of parenting is getting to share these “classics” with our kids. Though Junie B. Jones now has a place in our hearts, too!
