Don’t Eat the Pictures
Sesame Street at the Metropolitan Museum of Art recently became a regular in our video rotation. I’d never seen this movie, produced when I was just a kid myself. A good friend of mine’s son had outgrown it, so we happily accepted another distraction for my son opportunity to spend time with the Sesame Street gang.
One of my favorite parts was Oscar’s delight at finding beautiful “trash” on display in the museum. Or at least that was his artistic interpretation of broken Roman statues. Gotta love Oscar!

We love this too! We are inthe NYC area, and one of my son’s (5 years old) absolute favorite things to do is go to the Met. We were there Friday, and might go tomorrow too! There is also a great book called “You Can’t take a balloon to the Metropolitan museum” - we bring it with us when we go and my son knows where all the artworks in the book are now.

Karen: I had no idea such young kids could enjoy the art museum! Will definitely have to take my 4-year-old before school starts in a couple of weeks.

Yeah well, he is currently in the bathtub, listening to “A Chorus Line” so take his preferences with a grain of salt!
Anyways - don’t expect to stay mpre than an hour.
First stop: Arms & Armor (Knights! on horseback!)
Then The Temple of Dendur and the mummies.
The musical instruments upstairs from the arms and armor are usually a big hit.
Also, the courtyard in the American Wing and maybe one or two famous painting like Washington Crossing the Delaware.
The Asian and Islamic Art sections are gorgeous, but for some reason we are usually out odf steam before we get there!

Karen: How fun! Those are going to be awesome memories for your son. We took my 5 year old to the local art institute when they had the Princess Di exhibit on display. She thought that was pretty cool. We have a membership there, we just always forget to go! It’s a shame, too, b/c they even have a special area just for the kids. Gotta get there more often!
Hsien: Go get that boy some culture! :P

No excuses! Almost all that culture in London is free or cheap! You have been to the London Transit Museum, right?

Karen: LOL No excuses. We go to the museums regularly and they are really wonderful. The free price tag is nice too. ;) The London Transport Museum is closed for renovations until Summer 2007. Dying to go!! :(
