Disney Mobile
Hsien’s written a couple of times about kids and cell phones, and we even posted a survey to see how many of you were planning on getting cell phones for your kids.
To be honest, I never planned on getting them for my kids. Don’t know why, just didn’t seem like me. Then I saw an ad for Disney mobile. Have you seen it? This actually looks like a plan that would be pretty family friendly. Some of its features:
- Family Locator: GPS allows you to figure out where your kid’s phone is (and hopefully your kid) at all times.
- Family Monitor: Lets you set your kid’s minutes allowance, and lets you know when they’re reaching them.
- Family Alert: You can send prioritized messages to your kids.
- Call Control: Allows you to set the days and times of day that your kids can make calls! That’s a cool feature. No more calling boyfriends late into the night (not that I know of anyone who would do that. :D ) But it does allow you to preset some phone numbers that can be called at anytime. Good safety feature.
You can check their website for the other features. These are just the few that are making me rethink my “no way, no how” policy, especially since the girl kidnapped in South Carolina was rescued after text messaging her mom. Whew! I think I have a few years to make my decision, though.
Would these features make you sway your thoughts on kids with cellphones?
