Bob the Builder-Can I wear it?
Bob the Builder-Yes you can! Yep, that’s my almost 3 year old (only 9 days before you no longer have to hear me referring to him like that) wearing his costume a full 15 days before Halloween. 15 days.
That would never have been allowed when we were younger. I remember the great suspense of actually getting to wear the plastic printed apron and the matching plastic mask that made your face sweat about 30 seconds after putting it on. We must’ve bugged mom for days waiting to wear those coveted costumes!
Well, I bought the kids’ costumes a little early this year. In past years, I’ve made them. I just don’t have the patience, time, energy, or brain power this year. So, off we went to Target to find a few costumes before they were out of all of our sizes.
To my surprise, Jake opted for the Bob the Builder costume over his usual alter-ego, Tigger. But it was cute, so why not? Well, the darn hat broke before we even left the store, so we got a new one right there on the spot. Jake was so excited to wear it.
Normally, I’d make the kids wait until the actual day to wear their special outfit, but I’m really not sure why. Whose rule is that, anyway? So, after he asked to wear it the first time, I thought, why spend the next two weeks listening to him bugging me about it? As much as these darn things cost, why not get all our money out of it? Sure, half of it is going to be torn or broken by the time Halloween actually gets here. Chances are, though, that it’s going to be cold enough that he has to wear a coat over it by Trick-or-Treat night, anyway.
And this way, I have the benefit of a helper to fix my yard light now. (Yeah, right. He was breaking it.)
Mom-to-reader tip here: The costume is listed on-line at 31.99 (USD). I got it at Target for 16.99 (USD) and still thought that was a lot!!! But, there you go…..

Whaaaa!!! I wish we had a Target here! He’s such a cute Bob! I can see why he wants to wear it all the time!

Kailani: No Target on the islands? I guess I don’t remember them there 6 years ago, but it seems that it’s been since then that all of ours popped up around here! Thanks for the kind words about my Bob. We’re on day 3 right now. :)

I think what you harnessed is the joy of living and not trying to preserve everything. And that is truly wonderful. Nice dishes were made to be used, memories should be enjoyed and kids should be kids. Bravo mom!
Take heart, my daughter’s instructors at Sylvan told us they waited with baited breath for our daughter and her stories to arrive each week! I’ve always struck a deal early on with new teachers that if they agree to only believe about half of what she says I’ll extend the same courtesy. *wink*

Holly: Thanks so much for the kind words. :) Don’t worry about the technological difficulties. I was so frustrated with how a post was formatting the other night. After assuring me that it wasn’t the fault of his beloved laptop (and, therefore, I shouldn’t take my frustration out on it), my husband said, “Didn’t you start blogging because it’s supposed to be relaxing?” Yeah, well, sometimes. :D

It’s so aggrivating how cheaply made these costumes are, for the money. We made our 3rd trip last night to find a costume that wasn’t mismarked the wrong size, and didn’t fall apart the second it was tried on. We ended up paying 23 bucks, but its was on sale, and was only 7 $ more than the one that fell apart. Still… BAH!
