Kids’ Jewelry Kits
With the beginning of the dreary season hinting at its arrival in the Midwest, I’m trying to think of good items and activities to have on hand for indoor play as we wait out the gray skies of winter.
A popular activity on the 5 year old girl circuit is making necklaces with beads. Maybe a kit like this one would be good to have stashed for a rainy, cloudy, dreary day. Now I just have to figure up what to do with the boys.
What are some of your kids’ favorite indoor/bad weather/winter days activities?

It’s probably about time to renew our membership to the local Children’s Museum as well…

My daughter loves anything that has to do with jewlery. I wonder if she’s too young for it?
On rainy days, we play board games like Candy Land, Lucky Ducks and Hi Ho Cherry-O.

Bald Man: Yes, we do!!! Get it on that to-do list we never check!
Kailani: Oooh, I just saw Lucky Ducks at Target (sorry, don’t mean to rub it in ;) ) the other day. It looked like fun. Hmmmmmm……maybe for Jake’s birthday. As far as ages for the jewelry, once the kids are done sticking things in their mouths (or anywhere else, for that matter), they’re pretty good for making necklaces and such. If they’ve got little hands, just some really big wooden beads (with big enough holes in them) and yarn is a good way to get them started. Big dry pasta and yarn could be good, too. Fun!

Use shoe laced instead of yarn. The plastic tips make it easier for small, uncoordinated hands to thread.

Good tip, Bald Man. Also, a little piece of Scotch Tape wrapped around the end of the yarn works.
