Halloween Treats
Nutritionist Darlene Zimmerman of the Detroit Free Press has some suggestions for healthy Halloween treats.
- Mini juice boxes
- Cereal bars
- Small boxes of raisins
- Packages of trail mix
- Small bags of baby carrots
- Mini bags of pretzels
- Small cans of fruit or applesauce
- Miniature chocolate bars
I must object. What kind of Halloween is this? If you hand these super-healthy foods out on Halloween night, be prepared for some long faces and maybe even some tricks!
One night of indulgence can’t hurt. Once Halloween is over, junk food and candy go back to being rationed substances. That seems fair to me.
What do you plan to hand out on Halloween?

I thought about the raisin thing, but Hubby thinks we might get egged. So chocolate and miscellaneous unhealthy snacks it is!
I don’t think the pretzels, cereal/granola bars and trail mix are bad Halloween snacks though (or particularly egg-inducing).

SkylarKD: It’s kind of silly to be afraid of an egging but it’s reality! Those hoodlums. ;) I’ll be on hose alert. :D

Trail mix and raisins?…it’s trick or treat not trick or fruit.
I’m all for healthy eating but seriously… *balance is what we are lectured about….let them eat chocolate !!

Trick or Fruit! I like it! :D We actually have someone on our street that gives out CapriSuns every year, straight from the cooler. Maybe they’re trying to make sure the little goblins don’t get dehydrated walking up and down the hills! I was thinking of including stickers and such this year. In addition to the chocolate-fest, of course.

Yea, there’s nothing “fun” about the “fun-sized” candy bars. Since when was smaller ever better? We’re going chocolate all the way and the kids can eat themselves sick if they wish, luckily it’s over in a day and then it’s just a matter of rehab and detox. :)

Erica: LOL What if they prefer gummy candy. ;)
Kerri: I still don’t really get this Halloween free treat giveaway thing but I’ll be at your door later to collect my stickers.
Michelle: Rehab and detox…sure you have the right blog? haha

We’re going to be out and about on Halloween, so we’re not giving out treats this year. Though it would be awkward, anyway, to give out treats when you’re living in someone else’s home. I did see some homemade treat recipes that looked fun and gross, if I find them again, I’ll forward them along!

Ok… my theory is that good candy is for the little kids who are dressed up and out trick or treating - even the babies get stuff cause their moms deserve some chocolate! BUT I have to say i keep mini raisins to give out to those kids who are too old to be trick or treating AND don’t even bother to dress up! They deserve a little surprise- the raisins it is! Hint to anyone living around me- the last trick or treater of the night gets the rest of the bowl of candy- its kind of like the jackpot! so 7:59 pm be here!

Christina: Where are the recipes?? Treats are good anytime of the year. :)
Heidi: I think a pack of instant oatmeal would be good for older-than-they-should-be tricksters. ;)
