Little Tikes Inline Trainers
While Hsien’s little guy will be rolling around in his Bob the Builder skates, mine will be trying to master his Little Tikes Inline Trainers. He just received them from his auntie for his birthday, and had to try them out immediately on grandma’s kitchen floor.
My son’s initial reaction to the skates was that they were heavy. Unlike other toddler skates, shoes come off for these, and the child’s foot fits into a thick sock-type covering that is then put into the skate itself. There are buckle-like fasteners to keep everything in place.
The wheels on the skates don’t come in-line, but can be adjusted to be so once the child gets used to rolling around on them. I think it’ll be awhile before we need to make any adjustments. ;)

Hi!
What is the advisory minimum age for children before starting to skate?
Thanks!

BZ: I’m not sure but regardless of the minimum age, I would decide on a per child basis. Some kids are well coordinated at an early age and others take their time. And always remember to use safety gear like helmets, elbow, and shin pads when kids become adept enough to start zipping around on their own.

BZ: Sorry to have taken so long to get back to you. I didn’t see anything on line that dealt with specific ages. I agree with all Hsien’s advice here. I’d add that the inline trainers I have listed here are for a child’s shoe sizes 10-13. Some of the over the shoe skates are listed at child’s sizes 6-12. If you have any concerns about your child, check for a local roller rink in your area. Some have safety classes for the kids. Thanks for he comment and great question!

How is your son doing with these in-line trainers? I just got them for my 3.5 year old son and came across this while looking for information and/or reviews.

Leah: Thanks for commenting. I don’t think he’s been in them since I wrote this! It’s been too cold and we haven’t been to the skating rink. It shouldn’t be long, though, until we can get him back out on them. :)

They’d be great if the wheels were not so hard. On smooth surfaces, they tend to slip too much and on asphalt, they catch on every little pebble. I wound up buying a pair of Mission SX Adj Skates from Inline Warehouse which are MUCH better and not too much more. I play roller hockey and can tell you that you really get what you pay for when it comes to skates. My son loves his new Missions!
