Lanka Kade Fair Trade Toys
How often do you ponder the origin of your children’s toys? I have to admit, I’ve not often given it much thought. That was, until Bald Man and I watched “Walmart-The High Cost of Low Price.” A worker in a sweatshop that manufactured toys posed a hypothetical question to American parents as to why we think we can buy toys so inexpensively. Honestly, I don’t think we give it much thought. We get excited for a sale, or for products in the $1 bin, we lay out our bills, and then call our friends to share with each other the great deals we just got.
Since watching the documentary, I actually have been giving more thought to how certain products make it into our home, and trying to figure out how be more careful about what does make it in. Of course, one way is just to buy less! Being more aware of the types of companies I support when I do purchase toys can also have an effect on the lives of toy makers.
Lanka Kade is a company that is approved as “fair trade.” It seems to be a company that has put a great deal of effort in providing quality toys in ways that are fair to those individuals producing those toys, and to doing their part in protecting the environment whenever possible.
What about you? Do you think about the treatment of the people who made the toys that make your kids smile? Or about the lives of their children?
