Weird Toys
Welcome, Boing Boing readers! Stay a while and have some fun then come back again tomorrow. It’s always playtime here at Play Library!
At the London Toy Fair, I picked up a new product listing catalog and Toy News magazine. Here are some of the weirdest toys I saw. If you can explain their appeal, please leave a comment!

Bamz Interactive insoles that you put inside your shoe and talk when you walk. You can program whatever messages you like.

Gymkids Cyberbike and other exercise equipment for kids. Speaking as someone who hates the gym, I’d rather get the kids outdoors walking and running around. Perhaps ok for winter months during bad weather but I can’t imagine gym equipment being that much fun for anyone let alone kids.
Stikfas and Cuboyds figures with interchangeable parts. There’s a whole range that will appeal to the collector in every child but their featureless faces freak me out! Cuboyds are a litte cuter, though, and I think my son would enjoy playing with them. Quite honestly, they look like pocket money toys given out as party favors.

Bionic Putty - you can bounce it, stretch it, snap it, shape it, squish it and watch the colors change. I cannot recommend putty to anyone. They stick to everything and little tiny thready bits are very hard to remove once dry.

Gelli Baff bath product. One pack of bath powder turns the water into very thick goo, the other pack turns it back into water. GROSS!

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Street Grinding figures. A ripcord goes through the turtle’s body from front to back and when it’s pull out, the turtle will fly, do a face plant, then whiz away. The ripcord is highly unattractive. :P
My list of favorite toys from the 2007 London Toy Fair will be up tomorrow.

Speaking of some crazy toys check these out http://www.schooldelay.com/webstore/index.php?target=products&product_id=1632
There are called fun slides, kids put them on their feet and skate on carpet…. This web site has a lot of off the wall stuff, very unique.

That Jelli Bath picture is one of the more disturbing things I’ve seen recently…back to the drawing board on that one.

Gelli Baff is awesome! I’m totally having flashbacks to You Can’t Do That on Television.

It’s eerily similar to the bathtub scene in the movie Poltergeist. Carol Anne and the Mom were covered in pink slime after coming back from whatever dimension they were in.
If you really can turn it back into colorless water after adding the second packet, that’s pretty cool.

Just what my kids need! More noise for their shoes. That can’t have been invented by a parent–that’s more of a toy that a grandparent/aunt/uncle would come up with :)

lily: Thanks for the great link!
Devon: I can barely think about how gross it must be. I know my son wouldn’t like it. He hates anything slimy and squishy.
Bald Man: If I find some in the store, I’m going get some for your kids to drive you crazy with.
Jessie: Oh, yes, you’re right. Must explain why it’s so appealing to kids. yuck
Michelle: I don’t even want to think about what kind of crazy recordings they’d come up with! lol
Cyndi: Thanks!! :)

Hi,
Just seen a couple of kids at a bowling alley wearing the Bamz. Everyone thought they were great !! The message shows up from a long way back and has really caught my son’s imagination. We don’t have a set yet, but he is already thinking about what message to program.
The Bamz we saw were not making a noise, just showing a text message.
This could be really big !!

gym kids is the best, it can make our kids do some sport and make them tire and easy to sleep too :)
