Summer Backyard Toys
London weather has been gorgeous this week - sunny, slightly breezy, warm but not too hot. As we walked past the community wading pool that just opened last summer, I found myself thinking that it won’t be too long before children will be squealing and splashing there again.
I’ve got to prepare our own garden as well. The bush is overgrown and there are leaves to sweep up and weeds to pull. Last year, my son had a fabulous time playing with the watering cans and moving water from one side of the garden to the other and collecting spiders for inspection. This year, I’m aiming to get a wading pool so he can go skinny dipping too.
Ideally, I’d get him a sand and water activity table but they are darn pricey (UK prices are double that of US prices)! The parents profiled in Melissa Rayworth’s article about backyard toys don’t seem to think so. They buy jungle gyms, slides, seesaws, wagons, castles, plastic log cabins, playhouses that have almost the complete functionality of a hotel room, trains, and who knows what else. Little Tikes outdoor toys are particularly popular.
Our tiny postage stamp garden couldn’t accommodate such things but you can bet if I had enough room, I’d consider it. What about you? Since Kerri is asking about inexpensive outdoor toys, what expensive backyard toys would you splurge on or wish you could have in your backyard?
