Toys for Outdoor Play

by Kerri Aldrich on March 13th, 2007

Crayola Sidewalk ChalkOooh….it’s fun even writing that title, because it means regular warm weather will soon be here! It was 70 degrees (F) out today!!! Less than a month after our big snowstorm, and the kids would have been good out in shorts today. Of course, there’s a chance of snow again this weekend. That’s Ohio for you.

Anyway, being out with the kids reminded me that I need to do a check on our outdoor toys, so I thought I’d remind you, too. :) Last year, I did a good job of keeping a bin of outdoor goodies in the broom closet next to the back door for quick access when we were running outside. My tendency would be to leave them lying around in the back yard, but Bald Man prefers things a little more tidy. Here’s at least on area where I can be less lazy. :)

Here are a few of the things I like to keep handy for when we run out to the yard. I think most of these things can be found easily at the dollar store. Of course, once we get outside, the kids spend most of their time playing with the rocks, which is cool, too—-and free!

jump ropes
hula hoops
sidewalk chalk
bubbles
plastic bats
balls

What other inexpensive toys would you add for a jaunt to the backyard?
