Mega-Strollers, Buggies, and Struggies
Stop struggling with your strollers and buggies*! Writer Bryan Appleyard thinks people who go for SUV strollers have serious issues. I’m guessing that Bryan would definitely not approve of the Maclaren Techno XLR stroller.
Cafes and restaurants are routinely thrown into turmoil by the arrival of a colossal uber-struggy containing, somewhere amidst the over-engineered melange of steel, fabric and gigantic off-road tyres, one very small toddler, the poor chap bound for a life of self-esteem problems - too much or too little, it could go either way.
I can’t be bothered with strollers myself and have always used a sling because I’ve had to rely on public transportation in the countries we’ve lived in since my son was born - Japan, Vietnam, and the UK. My friends, however, make great use of their strollers and they’re often laden with more than one child, groceries, and all manner of fun toys. They’ve even carried my stuff for me!
What do you think of oversized strollers? How did you decide on the best stroller for your children?
*Here in the UK, they call strollers buggies, pushchairs, or prams. Bryan Appleyard mashed the words together to make “struggy.”
NB: Liz Khalil of Flak Magazine also has a funny take on superstrollers. There’s also a great discussion of strollers on the subway at Gothamist.

This is the stroller I want, not to mention a sling too. But I figure with a 3 year old and a newborn this would work out great and I can walk everywhere. We all know those 3 year olds give up after a while.
