Ever Heard of a Trunk-or-Treat?
It’s almost Halloween time again, already! For the first time, I’m starting to hear of communities hosting a Trunk-or-Treat. Have you heard of them?
Apparently, it’s an alternative to the traditional Trick-or-Treating, providing the same fun of getting together and gorging on sweets, but without the potential dangers of walking along dark streets to the homes of strangers.
The general idea, from what I’ve gathered, is for a group of people to gather in a parking lot, with all the cars parked so that the trunks are facing each other. Kids come in costume to do their begging from trunk to trunk rather than door to door. The event might also include games, costume contests and such.
The first time that I heard of this event, it was from a friend who lived in an apartment, and the residents of the apartment complex had decided together that a localized event in the parking lot would be better for all of the parents and kids. I think the most appealing aspect of it to me would be that the parents and the kids would all be able to enjoy the event together, rather than one parent hanging back to pass out candy while the other walked the streets with the kids.
What do you think? Would this be a preferable event to trick-or-treating for your family?
