Original Birthday Parties

by Julie on October 8th, 2007

tea-party-birthday-pack.jpgBirthday parties seem to be changing, at least where I live and I love it! Sure, we still get invited to parties at the bowling alley, or Chuck E. Cheese and places like those, but lately my friends have been mixing things up a bit.

My daughter has been invited to 2 birthday parties over the next 2 weekends. The first one is this Friday and Saturday for her friend Morgan. On Friday night they are going to the mall to get Morgan’s ears’ pierced and then having a sleepover. On Saturday morning they are packing up the van and heading to Columbia, South Carolina, which is about an hour away, and are going to the EdVenture Children’s Museum. What a fun weekend they are going to have!

The next weekend, her friend Gianna’s party is at the salon her mom works at. All the girls are going to get their hair, nails and makeup done. The salon will be closed so they will have the whole place to themselves. I think they are also going out for pizza and another stop somewhere. So, it’s like a traveling birthday party. Needless to say, my daughter is VERY excited about both of these. She’s such a socialite. :)

Another idea that I saw a couple of weekends ago just made me smile. At our local Ci-Ci’s pizza there was a big RV parked outside with a banner that read “Hannah Montana’s Tour Bus” and it had a bunch of signatures all over it. They said there was a group of girls there for some birthday pizza. What a fun idea!

Now I am not saying at all that there is anything wrong with a traditional birthday party. My kids still enjoy those too. I just think it is so great how parents are thinking outside of the box and are creating original ideas that the birthday girl and her friends will remember for a long time.

My daughter’s birthday is coming up at the end of November. Anyone have any ideas? :)

Julie, There are so many different ways to have fun and celebrate birthdays. I could post a REALLY long comment or we could email about it. I will say that this coming weekend my 5 yr old will be going to a Pirate and Fairies Party. When we RSVP’d to mom she requested we let her know what costume we wanted…Pirate or Fairy because they will have costumes for every child. Last year at this time my daughter (then 2nd grade) went to a Halloween party and they did they decorated pumpkins and all kinds of other stuff related to the season. Those are the best parties!! My kids had their party this summer in August at my place of employment at the time - indoor swimming pool. :) Good luck!! And I would love to be entered into the drawing.

With five children, we are always looking for new ways to celebrate. If I was starting over, I would never have gotten started with the “big party” stuff and kept parties limited to family and one to three best friends. As our children get older, they are being phased into that style of celebration. Small and special instead of big and chaotic. With just three friends in tow, we’ve taken teens rock climbing, to formal restaurants and other things that are just too expensive for a crowd.

I have a little boy and I’ll be having to come up with an idea for his 1st birthday before long! If I had a little girl, I would do a tea party. There are places around here where little girls can get dressed up and have tea parties and it sounds so fun! Maybe if we get blessed with a little girl I’ll do that for her. But for now, it’s all about the cars and the trains…

Wow, birthday parties have definately changed since I was a kid. Back then you got excited if you got to go roller skating for your birthday with some friends. LOL.

All of those ideas are really cute though and I bet they made the kids feel special.

@Gala and Cathy - Those are some great ideas! Thanks. Providing costumes, taking them to formal restaurants…those would be so much fun. I’ll have to stock those ideas away.

@Caryn - I did a tea party for my daughter’s 5th birthday. All the little girls came dressed in their best dresses. I served “tea” (apple juice) in a fancy teapot and cups. Then we ate fancy cupcakes on little glass plates. We had so much fun and the pictures I have from it are great.

Yep, my boys are all about cars, dinosaurs, etc. For my son’s 8th we took a bunch of boys to do lazer tag. Lots of fun. :)

If you are looking for something really unique and different, consider hiring a person that does tea parties. My company offers a lot of different themes we have of course a tea party and lots of fun with imaginary playing. You can find many friends that offer the same service in many different parts of US. YOu can find their names and location by visiting my website http://www.hersheyteaparty.com and click under “links”. Have fun planning…
