Is it Ever Too Late to Start Music Lessons?

I was just reading Kerri’s post (the former awesome blogger for Play Library!), Music Lessons, When to Start?
I too would love for my kiddos to start music lessons. It’s just so hard to squeeze it in with acting classes, gymnastics meets, school and church events and the list goes on and on and on.
My daughter does get some great vocal lessons in her acting class. She attends classes at Children’s Musical Theater Ensemble with one of the most amazing women, Ms. Mickey, that I have ever met. She used to star on the musical Cats. Anyway, I’ll go into more detail about acting classes sometime. They have been great for my daughter.
My sons who are 8 and 3, really want to learn to play the guitar. I’ve been told they need to start with the piano and then work their way over to the guitar. Well, I also have a husband who has dreamed of learning to play the guitar for about 12 years.
Guess what I did? His birthday is coming up on October 28th and I got him a guitar and guitar lessons for a present! I was so excited when I decided to do this. He is actually going to be out-of-town on his special day and I wanted him to go ahead and start lessons, so I gave it all to him early. Let me tell you, the look on his face and the excitement he has over this has just been priceless. I truly believe that if you have a dream, you need to go for it…no matter how old or young you are.
He’s had 3 lessons and so far so good. He took his guitar with him on his trip so he can practice. I asked him if he’s going to write a song for me while he’s away. :) Um yeah, he’s not quite there yet, lol!
I’ll keep you updated with his lessons. Also, I am hoping that after HE learns to play, he can then teach our boys and save us a little money. :)

Thanks for your sweet words. :) I love that you got your husband a gift that he really wanted and that touched him so much!!! Those are the times when giving truly feels so much better than receiving.

Great gift. As for your husband teaching the kids, that’s entirely possible but a very difficult task indeed. I wish you all luck in your musical adventures.
