Kids Do Enjoy the Simple Things
I know you’ve heard it over and over again that kids seem to play with the boxes the toys come in and not the toys themselves. That’s so true in my house. My kids have made some pretty creative things and have had some of the most fun together inside a huge cardboard box. The box our trampoline came in was a HUGE hit. It was months before we were able to finally get rid of it.
I just read a great article and I wanted to share it with you. It’s callled CAROLINE IN PROGRESS: Kids enjoy the simple things best. If you have a few minutes, read it and let it soak in. I’ve been working a lot lately and this article hit home a little. Stepping away from my computer has been hard for the last couple of weeks.
I loved this part of the article:
This Christmas I urge you to think about the kids in your own life. What is it they really need? Perhaps a trip to a museum or a ballpark could go a lot further than another video game. What our kids really need most is time with parents who care about them and are willing to step away from the BlackBerry and laptop long enough to hear about the pinecone birdfeeders they made at school.
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

I struggle with this too, but I think I am getting there and spending more time not working. We’re always broke no matter what, so I don’t think it makes a big difference to the bottom line.
