Vtech - Write and Learn Letter Pad
I am seriously thinking about buying one of these for my youngest child. It’s the Vtech - Write & Learn Letter Pad. He is at that stage where he’s starting to learn to write his letters. The only problem is, he only does it at school. I thought that maybe if I got him a cool looking toy like this that he would practice his letters, without realizing…he’s practicing his letters.
Here’s a description:
“The Write&Learn Letter Pad makes learning letters fun and easy. Children learn how to form letters step by step on an interactive, erasable letter pad while they get positive coaching from the encouraging Write&Learn “Spokespencil.” With the Write&Learn Letter Pad, you don’t have to wait for the ink to dry for your child to be writing letters! Includes three different activities.”
The reviews are so-so though. For the most part, people have said they love it and that their kids love it and would play with it on their own. I also read that it only includes capital letters. I know that’s where kids start, but I think if they added lower case letters and numbers I would buy this in a heartbeat.
For now, I think I’ll hold off and see if I can find anything I like a little better.
What about you? Do you have this toy? If so, give me your 2 cents.

not sure on it, I’ve been watching for reviews on this one as well. I have used, “hooked on phonics” in the past and liked them. I know they have something similiar and cant’ think of the name. Oh their smart sticks are great but they only go to so many letters and then you have to click on each one individually. But this isn’t a drawing one.

The problem I have with these toys is that the writing space is so limited. It doesn’t extend to writing words later on and it doesn’t feel like writing on real paper which is both easier and more strenuous than writing on a screen. There’s only one way to practice writing and that’s to sit down with pencil and paper. There are plenty of handwriting workbooks that makes handwriting practice more fun. I’d rather go for those instead!

Hey Eliza! We have a couple of hooked on phonics items and they seem to just sit there most of the time. It’s frustrating because they cost good money. :)
Hsien - I have found that a lot of the times my kids prefer the pen and paper route. My son loves his magnadoodle, but he got this fancy writing thing for Christmas and he won’t touch it. But, he’ll sit down with paper and crayons for over an hour. Go figure. :)
